Quick Notes
- Canvas Default Grading Scheme: An issue was identified that automatically enabled the De Anza default grading scheme in Fall 2026 Canvas courses. ETS has corrected the issue for future terms, but faculty should review their current grading schemes to ensure they match their syllabi.
- J1 Evaluations Update (Canvas): A new request process has been implemented for providing evaluators with temporary, view-only Canvas access during J1 evaluations. Requests should be submitted at least one week before the evaluation period.
- Change ADA Format (MyPortal): SensusAccess allows faculty and students to convert documents, including PDFs, into alternative accessible formats. Converted materials are delivered by email.
- Convert PDF to Canvas Page (HTML): An AI-powered tool that converts PDF documents into HTML content that can be added to Canvas Pages. This can help faculty replace PDFs with more accessible and editable course materials.
- Universal Access Bot: An AI-powered accessibility assistant designed to help faculty adapt instructional materials into more accessible formats and improve content for diverse learners. AI-generated materials should still be reviewed for accuracy and accessibility.
Credential (Badges) from Parchment
- The legendary Chery Chapman presented on on Credentials (also described as badges) from Parchment and the work to get De Anza badges going. The first badge we will test out will be related to the Online Teaching and Learning (OTL) course
Curriculum Forms Update
- Question 6 needs an update due to a broken link. The committee voted unanimously to update the question to "How is this course designed in a way that students of different backgrounds and ability can succeed in this modality?"
- Title 5 updates mean the committee will need to update the forms for compliance
- Questions for the curriculum office were gathered
FHDA AI Policy Feedback
- Dr. Marina Aminy is currently presenting the updated policy to different shared governance groups. The committee now has access to the policy.
- Special thanks to Amy and Cheryl for serving on the summer work group.
- Questions about if Marina was gathering feedback from students, James will look into.
- Make sure to submit feedback through the Google form.
