Important: You've Been Placed on Dismissal Status for Fall

Dear Student,

Please read this message carefully: You have been placed on dismissal status for the 2024 fall quarter, because your cumulative GPA at De Anza has been below 2.0 for at least five quarters. This means you won't be able to register for fall classes unless you see a counselor and submit a petition for reinstatement as soon as possible.

You can still continue your college education at De Anza – and we want you to succeed. There are support programs and other resources available to you.

For now, you must sit out this quarter while you develop a plan for getting back on track. Specifically, you must meet with an academic counselor and submit a petition for reinstatement.

Here are the steps to follow:

  • Schedule a meeting with an academic counselor
    • If you are part of program or Learning Community that has its own counselors, you should speak with the counselor for your program. This includes programs such as Disability Support Services, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), International Student Programs (ISP), First Year Experience (FYE), Puente, Umoja or Veteran Services. You can see the complete list at deanza.edu/our-counselors.
    • If you aren’t in a program with a designated counselor, you can meet with a counselor in the Academic Awareness program.
  • Submit the petition for reinstatement to the Appeal Review Committee (ARC)
    • Log in to MyPortal, open the Apps page and click on the tile for Adobe Sign Student Forms.
    • Open the form called De Anza Petition to the ARC for Admission After Dismissal.
    • Fill out the form and be sure to include the name of the counselor you met with.
    • Click to e-sign the form and submit it to the ARC.
    • Please allow up to two weeks for the ARC to review your petition and notify you of the outcome.

Because your GPA is above 1.75, you are eligible to submit this petition for fall instead of being required to sit out one quarter. But you must act promptly to petition for reinstatement.

Please note: Your academic status could affect your eligibility for certain types of financial aid or veterans' benefits. You may contact the Financial Aid and Veteran Services offices for more information about this.

We want you to reach your goals at De Anza. You can a find a list of helpful resources on our Academic Awareness website, as well as tips for improving your academic performance. You’ll find more information about support programs at deanza.edu/services. Please don’t hesitate to seek assistance.

Best wishes,
De Anza College
