Happy New Year From Your New President

Jan. 6, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

Please accept my wishes for a Happy New Year with the hope that you were able to spend quality time with your loved ones, enjoy the holiday cheer, and rejuvenate over the break. As today is my first day as your new president, it is a privilege to walk the campus and the Administration Building, running into a few of our colleagues, and hearing wonderful stories about their experiences at De Anza.

As you know, De Anza College is an extraordinary community of students, classified professionals, faculty, and administrators, centered on equity while providing an exceptional educational experience marked by integrity and tradition. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students each and every day; thank you for working so collaboratively to support each other; and thank you for making De Anza College such a welcoming, special home for so many.

Next week, I will begin my 100 Days of Listening, meeting with our campus community. If you would like to meet with me individually, please reach out to Nathaly Aguilar, who will schedule a time for us. I look forward to hearing about your experiences at De Anza College and your ideas about how you and your department can innovate as we look to the future.

Please join me in thanking Interim President Christina Espinosa-Pieb, who will work beside me during the next two weeks of transition. She has been incredibly generous with her time, bringing me up to speed while demonstrating such pride in all that is De Anza College. We have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Christina during her 43-year tenure in multiple roles at De Anza College, and she will be truly missed.

I hope you will use this last weekend before winter quarter to relax and recharge with your loved ones. I look forward to meeting each of you.

Sincerely,
Omar

Omar Torres, Ed.D.
